Cormorants gather on the safety boom on the lower spillway at Rodman Dam. This is a popular fishing area for humans and birds. Common to see cormorants, osprey, and eagles fishing in the waters just below the dam. The Rodman Dam and its continuing existence remains controversial. The dam floods over old growth cypress tree forest and covers up many natural springs. Opponents of the dam say breaching the dam will result in healthier Oklawaha River, springs, and environment. Supporters of the dam want to protect the recreational fishing and boating opportunities provided by the reservoir. The dam is old and there seems to be growing support to breach to the dam.
