Ponte Vecchio, the Old Bridge, is a bridge lined with shops that has crossed the Arno River in Florence since the fourteenth century. It is an immediatley recognizable landmark of that city of arts. The bridge for centuries housed butchers until 1593 when the stench and pollution caused a decree limiting the shops to goldsmiths and jewlers which restriction is still in place today. This photgraph on canvas higlights the bridge in color while the surrounding city is contrasted in black and white.
