Laodicea ad Lycum

Laodicea ad Lycum, Landmarks
Laodicea ad Lycum
A timeless symbol. A waypoint to give direction. A priceless souvenir of humanity, whether good or bad. And simply, an expression placed as an impression on Earth. When landmarks are discussed, we can think about things that still stand as grand as they did when first constructed. Landmarks that hold as much significance and more than when originally established; still, to many like me, the intrigue behind the Laodicea on the Lycus stands this test of time, if not but in shambles of its former self. The beauty of this location is that, in its day, it was a landmark for being a bustling powerhouse, filled with interest from the public throughout its days. Even still, after the city collapsed within itself, the interest was not lost. Our appreciation for a historical landmark became that much more filled with intrigue. Whether you believe in the religious significance that this location holds, the mere presence as a mighty capital, turned derelict masterpiece has its place in human history. The washed, slightly warped, and faded watercolor used is meant to embody the ruinous nature that it stands in today. Yet, the stark sharpness of the markings and drips of the shades shows that it still has a life breathed into it in the modern day. The Laodicea on the Lycus may be controversial, however, such as the way with almost every landmark. It reflects something of our past, gives us a mirror of our nature as people, and directs our future steps in either the same path traveled or a new direction.
